The new GKC SURE Award in Sustainable Architecture Leadership

On August 21st, 2025, GKC Architecture & Design had the pleasure of joining students and faculty at McGill University’s Peter Guo-hua Fu School of Architecture for the presentation of this year’s Summer Undergraduate Research in Engineering (SURE) Awards.

The event also marked the presentation of the first two GKC SURE Awards, selected from project topics submitted earlier in the year. Students showcased their research through posters, engaging directly with visitors and jury members to explain their work.

We are proud to congratulate this year’s award recipients:

• Alice Worden – “Reconstruct: Building Energy Retrofit Solutions for Canada”, supervised by Michael Jemtrud
• Nazgolsadat Zakerameli Renani – “Spolia: What the Past Teaches Us”, supervised by Naomi Keena

Both projects reflect the ingenuity, dedication, and forward-thinking approaches that are essential to advancing sustainable architecture in Canada.
