Ascot - Office Redevelopment Strategy
Montréal, QC
To support continued growth and unite its teams, Ascot Capital Group—a Montreal-based company in the lighting sector, including Stanpro, AimLite, and LumenTruss and in real estate—commissioned GKC to transform its Aviation Avenue facility in Dorval. The project aimed to consolidate operations, modernize workspaces, and create a headquarters that authentically reflects the company’s identity.

The renovation encompassed nearly 27,000 sq. ft. of office space, with warehouse modifications to accommodate around 200 employees under one roof. Upgrades included modernized work environments, expanded washrooms, and new infrastructure to support current operations and future growth.
Beyond bringing teams together, Ascot aimed to create a vibrant workplace that encourages employees to return and meets evolving expectations.
The new layout features collaborative spaces, informal lounges, coffee stations, flexible workstations, focus rooms, and a fitness area. These varied settings support diverse work styles and foster daily interaction.
A comprehensive workplace strategy guided space planning. Enclosed offices are centrally located within the open plan, while workstations line the glazed perimeter, maximizing daylight penetration and creating a brighter, more flexible, and collaborative environment.
Ascot’s visual identity inspired the design concept. Curves from the company’s logo informed a fluid architectural language that softens the building’s rigid geometry and creates a sense of movement, naturally guiding circulation.
Given the highly linear configuration of the open office area, curved forms were integrated into the ceilings, soffits, and selected architectural elements to introduce greater dynamism and enhance occupant comfort. This approach creates visual continuity between different zones and fosters smoother, more intuitive movement throughout the workplace.
« L’espace existant était très rectiligne. Nous avons introduit les courbes du logo Ascot dans l’aménagement afin de créer davantage de fluidité et de mouvement à travers les espaces.»

The brand’s distinctive hexagonal motif was reimagined in architectural interventions, inspiring deconstructed arches radiating from the center to the open work areas.
These elements visually organize the office, define subzones, and introduce a more human scale.
Corporate colours appear subtly throughout, reinforcing brand identity while preserving a timeless appeal.
The deconstructed arches allowed us to organize the large work areas and create more intimate zones tailored to different teams.

The project was also designed to highlight the group’s expertise in lighting solutions. All lighting fixtures integrated throughout the workplace were sourced from Ascot’s various brands, transforming the headquarters into a true showcase of the company’s capabilities for employees, visitors, clients, and business partners alike.
One of the project’s defining features is refection of the executive cafeteria designed to host clients and partners in a refined and welcoming setting.
A large custom millwork installation serves as the focal point of the space, while the furniture, lighting, and architectural detailing convey a premium aesthetic.
Curved forms echoed in the ceilings and soffits ensure continuity with the overall design concept and contribute to the visual cohesion that defines the project.
The reception desk is a deconstructed interpretation of Ascot’s hexagonal logo. It is one of the project’s most distinctive features.

The reception area stands out as another signature element. Inspired by the hexagonal geometry of the Ascot logo, the reception desk adopts a deconstructed form whose angles and segmented planes create a dynamic and distinctive composition.
The integration of wood introduces warmth and hospitality, creating a strong and welcoming first impression upon arrival.
Rather than locating a waiting area directly within the reception zone, the project features a lounge space integrated into the heart of the workplace. This approach keeps the entrance open and uncluttered while providing visitors with a more comfortable and inviting environment that aligns with the overall workplace experience.
Within the warehouse, an underutilized mezzanine was transformed into a cafeteria and break area for plant employees. Despite the absence of natural light, the space offers a bright and welcoming atmosphere through a light colour palette, carefully designed lighting, and furnishings featuring vibrant accents.
This redevelopment responded to a growing need for amenities better suited to employees’ day-to-day realities. The project also included expanding washroom facilities and adding loading docks, improving comfort and functionality for all building users.
New openings overlooking warehouse operations introduce depth and visual interest to the space while reducing any sense of enclosure.
